Water Department Laborer
Job Summary
Performs maintenance, repair, and improvement work on buildings, equipment, grounds, and water system infrastructure as directed by the Department Manager, Foreman, or Chief Operator. This position requires the ability to work independently in the field and exercise sound judgment on the job.
Education & Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Valid Pennsylvania Driver’s License
Starting Wage: $19.00/hour
Reporting to: Department Manager
Job Responsibilities
This position includes a wide range of field and maintenance work, including but not limited to:
- Maintenance, repair, and improvement of buildings, equipment, vehicles, and grounds
- Safe operation of equipment with proper training, including backhoe, skid steer, zero-turn mower, forklift, and related machinery
- Maintenance and repair work outside department grounds
- Emergency call-outs, including availability on weekends and holidays
- Assisting other departments as needed
- Field work involving water system repairs, road repairs, traffic control (flagging), demolition, and general system maintenance
- Grounds maintenance, including mowing, snow removal, and general upkeep
- Manual labor such as digging, jackhammer use, and operation of hand tools
- Moving heavy materials and equipment as required
- Maintaining professionalism when interacting with the public
- Participation in safety training and ongoing continuing education
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 65 pounds
- Ability to stand for extended periods with short breaks
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and terrain
